How ReviewFolk works

Anyone can review a company. Here’s how we make sure the reviews are real, how scores are worked out, and where businesses fit in.

Writing a review

You don’t need an account. Pick a company, choose a star rating and write about what happened. Your review saves straight away and you can see it on the company’s page.

We then email you a link. When you click it, your review goes public and counts towards the score. If you don’t click it within 7 days, we delete the review and your email address.

How we confirm reviewers

  • Every public review is linked to a confirmed email. That’s what the “Verified” label means: the author proved they control the address. It doesn’t mean we checked a receipt.
  • One review per email per company. If you review the same company again, we send you a link to update your existing review instead.
  • Rate limits stop the same connection posting lots of reviews in a short time.

How the score is calculated

A company’s score is the plain average of all its confirmed reviews, rounded to one decimal place. A 4.3 means the average star rating across every confirmed review is between 4.25 and 4.35.

  • Only confirmed reviews count. Reviews waiting for email confirmation don’t.
  • Every confirmed review has the same weight, old or new.
  • Replies from the company don’t change the score.
  • Reviews removed for breaking our guidelines stop counting the moment they’re removed.

The words shown next to the score are fixed bands: Excellent is 4.5 and up, Great is 4.0 to 4.4, Average is 3.0 to 3.9, Poor is 2.0 to 2.9 and Bad is below 2.0.

What businesses can and can’t do

Companies can claim their page for free using an email address at their own website’s domain. Once they have, they can:

  • reply publicly to any review
  • report a review they believe breaks our guidelines
  • show their rating on their website with our widgets

They can’t edit reviews, hide them, choose which ones count, or pay to have any review removed. A moderator decides on reports using the published guidelines, and the reviewer is told if their review is removed and why.

“What people talk about”

On company pages we group reviews by topic, such as delivery or refunds. This is based on simple keyword matching, not AI, and the counts show how many reviews mention each topic and their average rating.
